Digitalization of the agricultural sector as a tool for ensuring Ukraine's food security

Abstract

The article examines the role of digitalization of the agricultural sector as a tool for ensuring Ukraine's food security under martial law and post-war recovery. The authors analyze the implementation level of key digital technologies, GPS navigation, precision farming, IoT, Big Data, drones, and ERP/MES systems, in comparison with the average indicators of EU countries. Based on the dynamics of digitalization indicators for 2020-2025, a trend of accelerated development of the AgriTech market and a persistent unevenness of digital transformation between large agroholdings and small farms is identified. Using Global Food Security Index (GFSI) data, the impact of digitalization on the components of food security is assessed: physical and economic affordability, quality and safety of nutrition, as well as the sustainability and adaptability of the food system. A SWOT analysis of agricultural digitalization is conducted, allowing for the systematization of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats.

The international experience of digital transformation of agricultural production is summarized, and prospects for its adaptation to Ukraine are determined. It is established that digital technologies generate a comprehensive positive effect: increasing yields, reducing costs, and optimizing resource use. It is concluded that the effectiveness of digital transformation in the agricultural sector depends on comprehensive state policy, infrastructure development, bridging the digital divide between different types of farms, and international investment support.
